Job Title: Database Administrator
Job Description: A Database Administrator is the one who work with database management systems software and determiners way to organize and store data. They identify user needs and set up new computer databases. In many cases, database administrators must integrate data from outdated systems into a new system. In an organization, a database administrator ensures the organization's database effectiveness of its performance. It also includes understanding of the database's platform and adds new user to the system. Because today, many databases are connected to the internet, he also plans and coordinates security measures with network administrators.
The following are a database typical work responsibilities:
- establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access and security;
- monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast query responses to 'front end' users;
- mapping out the 'conceptual design' for a planned database in outline;
- considering both 'back end' organization of data and 'front end' accessibility for end users;
- refining the 'logical design' so that it can be translated into a specific data model;
- further refining the 'physical design' to meet system storage requirements;
- installing and testing new versions of the database management system (DBMS);
- maintaining data standards, including adherence to the Data protection Act;
- writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary('metadata');
- controllingg access permissions and privileges;
developing, managing and testing backup and recovery plans;
- ensuring that storage, archiving, backup and recovery procedures and web developers;
- communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security;
- commissioning and installing new applications.
Because of the increasing levels of hacking and the sensitive nature of data stored, security and recoverability or 'disaster recovery' have become increasingly important aspects of the work.
The Database Administrator classification isdistinguished from the Database Designer/Information System Analyst classification by the extensive knowledge, experience and complex technical skills required. Further differences include the supervision of database and transaction log backups, and the maintenance and monitoring of database server performance.
There are a lot of advantages when you engaged in this job. Database administrator may advance into managerial positions, such as chief technology officer, on the basis of their experience managing data and enforcing security. Computer specialists with work experience and considerable expertise in a particular subject or a certain application may find lucrative opportunities as independent consultants or may choose to start their own computer consulting firms.
Tecnological advances come so rapidly in the computer field that continuos study is necessary to keep one's skills up to date. Employers, hardware and software vendors, colleges and universities, and private training institutions offer continuing education. Additional training may come from professional development seminars offered by professional computing societies.
So, as foot note, I always hope and ambition when i finish my course IT i want to be a DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR. A tricky and challenging job but still I know my capacity and hopefully be a DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR someday.
